CSAB 2025: Counselling Rounds (NEUT, Special, Supernumerary), Dates, Eligibility, Cutoffs

What is CSAB?

CSAB is Central Seat Allocation Board (CSAB). It conducts national-level counselling based on JEE Main scores for admission to vacant seats left after JoSAA counselling last round, called the CSAB special counselling. Other than the CSAB special counselling, there are two more counselling categories under CSAB. The details of all three types of CSAB counselling can be checked below:
CSAB Special Round: The Central Seat Allocation Board (CSAB) holds the special CSAB counselling to allocate the unfilled seats of the NIT+ System after the last JoSAA round. Candidates desirous of participating in the CSAB special rounds are required to do a fresh registration.
CSAB NEUT Round: This round of CSAB counselling is held for the allocation of seats to candidates of North-Eastern states and Union Territories only. The seats allocated in the CAB NEUT round include the reserved seats under the government of India scheme of “Reservation of seats in Degree Level Technical Courses for States/UTs lacking such facilities in the AICTE-approved institutions”. Seats are allotted in Engineering/Technology/Architecture/Pharmacy courses conducted at degree-level technical institutions approved by AICTE, Universities for North-Eastern (NE) States and Union Territories (UTs).
CSAB Supernumerary Round: This counselling round is for admission to supernumerary seats in NIT Calicut, NIT Durgapur, and SVNIT Surat. The candidates belonging to the Union Territories of Andaman & Nicobar, Lakshadweep, Daman & Diu, and Dadra & Nagar Haveli are eligible CSAB 2025 Supernumerary round.

Commonly asked questions

Q: Is there any reservation in CSAB counseling?
Yes, CSAB (Central Seat Allocation Board) counseling, which is part of the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) process, includes reservation categories similar to those in other centralized counseling processes in India. All India Quota (AIQ):
  • 15% AIQ for SC candidates: 15% of seats in participating institutes are reserved for candidates belonging to the Scheduled Castes (SC) category.
  • 7.5% AIQ for ST candidates: 7.5% of seats are reserved for candidates from the Scheduled Tribes (ST) category.
  • 27% AIQ for OBC-NCL candidates: 27% of seats are reserved for candidates from the Other Backward Classes (OBC) category, belonging to Non-Creamy Layer (NCL).
And, State-specific Quota, Economically Weaker Section (EWS) Reservation, Persons with Disability (PwD) Reservation alos provided.
The least rank to get a seat through JoSAA or CSAB counselling can vary greatly depending on the course and the institute. However, here are some general observations: For JoSAA counselling, candidates can get admission in NITs, IIITs, IITs, and GFTIs1. While admission is possible up to a 3 Lacs rank in JEE Main, securing admission in popular NITs and B.Tech specializations is limited for a low rank in JEE Main (above 1,00,000). After the conclusion of six rounds of JoSAA counselling, two special rounds are conducted by CSAB (Central Seat Allocation Board) for the vacant seats1. The list of vacant seats shall be displayed in advance so that the candidates can plan college options and participate in the counselling process. Please note that these are approximate figures and the actual cutoff may vary each year based on several factors such as the difficulty level of the JEE Main exam, number of applicants, number of seats available, and the category of the candidate. For the most accurate information, I recommend checking the official JoSAA or CSAB websites during the admission season as they release the category-wise opening and closing ranks after each round of counselling.
The schedule for the CSAB 2025 NEUT round, as well as the special and supernumerary rounds, will differ. The counselling process will begin with the CSAB NEUT round, followed by the special round, and finally the supernumerary round. The dates of CSAB NEUT roun is yet to be announced, however, dates ofr the supernumerary and special round has been released at csab.nic.in.

Central Seat Allocation Board mentions the CSAB eligibility criteria in the official notification. Applicants are advised to check the CSAB 2025 eligibility before filling the application form.

  • Candidates who have not registered for JoSAA counselling but are eligible as per their JEE Main rank, are allowed to register for CSAB special round.
  • Candidates who have registered for JoSAA and were allocated a seat in any of Round 1 to 6 are eligible to participate in the special round of CSAB.
  • Candidates who have registered for JoSAA and were not allocated a seat in any of the Round 1 to 6 are eligible for the CSAB special round.
  • Candidates who have accepted the seat and paid the partial admission fee through JoSAA can also participate in CSAB.
  • Candidates who have opted for “Not to Participate in Special Round” at the time of reporting are not eligible for CSAB.

There is no fee to register for any CSAB counselling round. However, fees must be paid after registration and seat allotment as required and as per the schedule of CSAB counselling.
To secure admission in a good college and preferred branch, you should prioritize appearing for JoSAA (Joint Seat Allocation Authority) counseling if you have qualified in JEE Main or JEE Advanced. JoSAA manages the centralized seat allocation process for admissions to 110 participating institutes, including prestigious institutions like IITs, NITs, IIITs, and other GFTIs across India.
Central Seat Allocation Board will release the CSAB counselling seat allotment result online at the official website. Candidates can follow the steps below to complete CSAB counselling registration.

CSAB 2025 Supernumerary Counselling Process

Check the various stages involved in the supernumerary counselling process below.

Commonly asked questions

Q: What is CSAB Supernumerary counselling all about?
The Supernumerary round of CSAB counselling round is dedicated to admission to supernumerary seats at NIT Calicut, NIT Durgapur, and SVNIT Surat. Candidates from the Union Territories of Andaman & Nicobar, Lakshadweep, Daman & Diu, and Dadra & Nagar Haveli are eligible to participate in the CSAB 2025 Supernumerary round.
There is a possibility to change your category Certificate to OBC-NCL depending upon the category mentioned in your application form and considered by JoSAA. However, you have to submit the original OBC-NCL caste Certificate at the time of document verification. The Central Seat Allocation Board CSAB conducts some special rounds (generally 2 rounds) to fill up the vacant seats of NITs, IIITs, and other colleges after JoSAA completes its process. In the previous year, candidates whose category was changed to general during document verification in JoSAA counseling rounds due to the non-submission of a valid category Certificate were allowed to change categories. The candidates were required to request a change of category via mailing to CSAB before registering for the special rounds and provide a valid category Certificate during the document verification process. If your category was general in your score card and during JOSSA counseling, then it might be slightly difficult to change categories.
Yes, CSAB (Central Seat Allocation Board) counseling, which is part of the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) process, includes reservation categories similar to those in other centralized counseling processes in India.
You can get GFTIs and state level colleges at this rank but only in C.S.A.B rounds.
