Question
Given below are two statements:
Statement I : In hydrogen atom, the frequency of radiation emitted when an electron jumps from lower energy orbit $(\left.E_1\right)$ to higher energy orbit $\left(E_2\right)$, is given as $h f=E_1-E_2$..
Statement-II : The jumping of electron from higher energy orbit $\left(\mathrm{E}_2\right)$ to lower energy orbit $\left(\mathrm{E}_1\right)$ is associated with frequency of radiation given as $f=\left(E_2-E_1\right) / h$
This condition is Bohr's frequency condition.
In the light of the above statements, choose the correct answer from the options given below:
Select the correct option:
A
Both statement I and statement II are true.
B
Both statement I and statement II are false
C
Statement I is correct but statement II is false
D
Statement I is incorrect but statement II is true.
✓ Correct! Well done.
✗ Incorrect. Try again or view the solution.
Solution
When electron jump from lower to higher energy level, energy absorbed so statement-I incorrect. When electron jump from higher to lower energy level, energy of emitted photon $\begin{aligned} & E=E_2-E_1 \\ & h f=E_2-E_1 \Rightarrow f=\frac{E_2-E_1}{h}\end{aligned}$ so statement-II is correct.
