Introduction to COMEDK UGET 2026

The Consortium of Medical, Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnataka (COMEDK) has released the UGET 2026 exam pattern on comedk.org. This exam is held for admission to undergraduate engineering programmes across Karnataka's 150+ private engineering colleges (BMS, RV, MSRIT, PES, Dayananda Sagar, and more).

The COMEDK UGET structure is simple and student-friendly. It is a CBT with 180 questions, each carrying 1 mark, for a total of 180 marks. Most important of all: there is NO NEGATIVE MARKING. This means attempting every question is safe, and even calculated guesses can earn you marks.

The 2026 exam will be held on 9 May 2026 (a single day, multiple shifts) at multiple exam centres across India, from which you can choose your preferred location.

Equal Weight Advantage: All three subjects carry 33.3% weightage. This means if you are weak in one subject, you can compensate with the others. Balanced preparation is the safest strategy.

Marking Scheme Explained

OutcomeMarksStrategy Implication
Correct Answer+1 markDirect gain
Incorrect Answer0 marks (no penalty!)Free guess opportunity
Unattempted Question0 marksSame as wrong, so always attempt
Multiple SelectionCounted as wrongAvoid double-marking
Strategy Math: A wrong answer = 0 marks. An unattempted question = 0 marks. Both are the same. So why leave any question unattempted? Always attempt. Even a pure guess has a 25% probability of being correct, which is pure gain in COMEDK.

Syllabus Source & Class Distribution

ClassApprox WeightageNumber of Questions

Class 1267%~120 questions
Source: The COMEDK syllabus is largely the same as the JEE Main syllabus, based on the CBSE Class 11 and 12 curriculum. NCERT books should be your primary resource. Karnataka State Board concepts also align well.

Preparation Strategy Based on the Pattern

Time Allocation (180 minutes total)

  • Chemistry first (45 minutes): 60 questions, 0.75 minutes each. NCERT-direct facts, the fastest section.
  • Physics second (60 minutes): 60 questions, 1 minute each. A mix of formula-based and conceptual questions.
  • Mathematics last (65 minutes): 60 questions, just over 1 minute each. Calculation-heavy, so reserve maximum time.
  • Buffer (10 minutes): Mark all unattempted questions with educated guesses, since there is no negative marking.

No-Negative-Marking Strategy

  • Attempt every single question: Wrong = 0 marks, Unattempted = 0 marks. So why not try?
  • Use elimination logic: Even if you are not 100% sure, eliminate 2 obvious wrong options. A remaining 50% chance equals an expected gain of 0.5 marks per attempt.
  • Last 5 minutes rule: If you are running out of time, mark random options for unattempted questions. Some will be correct: free marks!
  • Avoid careless mistakes: Always read the question completely. In COMEDK, careless errors directly cost you 1 mark each.

Subject-Wise Priorities

  • Chemistry (most scoring): Direct NCERT memorisation. Go through NCERT line by line for Inorganic and Biomolecules. An easy 50+ marks here.
  • Physics (concept-driven): Focus on Mechanics + Electrodynamics for around 40% of the section. Practise formula-based numericals daily.
  • Mathematics (practice-heavy): Calculus + Algebra together make up around 50% of the section. JEE Main PYQs also help here, since the syllabus overlap is high.

Other Important Points

  • COMEDK UGET difficulty is moderate; compared to JEE Main, achieving 70%+ accuracy is realistic for serious aspirants.
  • Tie-breaking rule: if two candidates have the same score, the one with fewer incorrect answers gets the higher rank. This is the hidden downside of random guessing.
  • The exam is conducted in English only. Make sure your technical English is exam-ready.
  • A minimum of 45% (general) or 40% (reserved) in PCM in the Class 12 board exam is required for admission.

Frequently Asked Questions

COMEDK UGET 2026 is scheduled for 9 May 2026 (Saturday). The exam will be conducted in CBT mode in multiple shifts across exam centres in India. It is a single-day exam with no second attempt.
No, there is absolutely no negative marking in COMEDK UGET 2026. You should attempt every single question, even if you have to guess. Wrong answers and unattempted questions both score 0, so there is no reason to leave any blank.
COMEDK UGET is conducted in English language only. There is no Hindi or regional language option. Make sure your English comprehension is exam-ready.
For RV College CSE: 145+ marks. For BMS College CSE: 140+. For MSRIT CSE: 135+. For PES University CSE: 130+. These are based on recent year cutoffs and may vary by 5 to 8 marks each year.
The full 3 hours covers all three subjects, and the official structure suggests around 1 hour for Mathematics and 2 hours for Physics and Chemistry combined. Plan your time accordingly and confirm exact instructions on your admit card.
Yes, COMEDK UGET is open to all Indian candidates regardless of state. Karnataka domicile is not required. Through this exam, you can secure admission to top Karnataka private engineering colleges (RV, BMS, MSRIT, and more).
JEE Main preparation is more than enough for COMEDK UGET. The syllabus overlap is 95%+ with CBSE Class 11 and 12 NCERT. The main difference is that COMEDK has no negative marking, so adjust your attempt strategy accordingly. Practise 2 to 3 COMEDK pattern mocks before the exam.
If two candidates have the same total score, the candidate with fewer incorrect answers gets the higher rank. This means random guessing has a hidden downside, even though there is no negative marking. Smart attempts beat blind attempts.
