Two plane polarized light waves combine at a certain point whose electric field components are

${\rm{E}} = \sqrt {2{\rm{E}}_0^2 + {\rm{E}}_0^2} = \sqrt 3 {{\rm{E}}_0} = 1.73{{\rm{E}}_0}$
