JoSAA counselling allocates seats for undergraduate engineering programs across IITs, NITs, IIEST, IIITs and other GFTIs. Admission to IITs is based on JEE Advanced ranks; other participating colleges allot seats on JEE Main ranks. The Ministry of Education set up the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) to oversee allocation for 121 institutes — 23 IITs, 31 NITs, IIEST Shibpur, 26 IIITs and 40 Other-GFTIs. Eligible candidates must register on the official JoSAA online portal to participate and secure a seat.

Must qualify JEE Advanced 2026 and meet Class XII performance criteria.
Must secure rank in JEE Main 2026 — Paper 1 for BE/BTech, Paper 2 for BArch/BPlan — and meet Class XII criteria.
Log in to JoSAA portal with JEE Main application number, name, mother's name & DOB. Verify & confirm all details (only contact info editable).
Enter branch & college choices in preference order. Arrange via "Arrange Filled Choices".
Lock your choices & take a printout for reference.
Seats allotted by rank, choices & availability. Choose Freeze, Float or Slide.
Pay seat acceptance fee online. No payment = refusal of seat & no document verification.
Online verification per schedule. Only after verification can you report for admission.
Report to allotted institute, pay remaining fee & complete admission formalities.
Authenticate with JEE Main application number, name, mother's name & DOB. Verify OTP (mobile + email), check details, create JoSAA portal password.
Log in with application number, password & OTP. Verify & confirm details. Registration complete → proceed to choice filling.
Re-verify OTP, then select institute types, institute names & programmes from the displayed list. Add as many choices as possible in preference order. You can:
Choice Locking: Lock when confident — locked choices can't be edited. Unlocked choices auto-lock at the deadline. After locking, download the locked-choice letter.
Results appear under your JoSAA login (JEE Main application number + JoSAA password). Seats allotted by JEE Main/Advanced rank, category & choices filled. Download the "Initial Seat Allotment Intimation Slip". No separate intimation is sent — check the portal yourself each round.
After each round, opening & closing ranks release for all colleges & courses. Cutoff shows: institute, programme name, quota, seat type, gender, opening rank, closing rank.
Accept seat, happy with programme. No further rounds. Seat stays allocated & provisionally confirmed (subject to completing all steps).
Accept seat but want a higher-preference programme in ANY institute in later rounds. Considered in subsequent rounds.

After the last round, candidates with a provisionally allocated NIT+ seat must pay PAF. No PAF = seat rejected. Pay via Debit/UPI/Credit/Net Banking or SBI E-challan from the portal.
