What is CSAB? The Central Seat Allocation Board fills seats that stay vacant after JoSAA in NITs, IIITs and GFTIs — IITs are not included. Seats go by JEE Main rank, category and choice order. Closing ranks are usually a bit more relaxed than JoSAA since these are leftover seats.

Special Round opening & closing ranks for NITs, IIITs and GFTIs.
CSAB is generally a bit easier — it fills leftover seats after JoSAA, so competition is lower for mid-tier NITs, newer IIITs and GFTIs.
| Parameter | JoSAA | CSAB Special Round |
|---|---|---|
| Institutes | IITs, NITs, IIITs, GFTIs | NITs, IIITs, GFTIs only |

| Cut-off | Tighter | Slightly relaxed |
| Eligibility | JEE Main / Advanced | JEE Main (NIT+ system) |
Your JoSAA seat stays safe unless CSAB allots you a new seat and you accept it. If you accept a CSAB upgrade, the original JoSAA seat is automatically cancelled — so decide carefully.
No. CSAB only covers the NIT+ system — NITs, IIITs and GFTIs. IIT seats are handled entirely by JoSAA.
The final special round. Round 2 (and later) closing ranks are usually more relaxed than Round 1, as more vacant seats open up across rounds.
For reserved categories, CSAB uses your category rank against the relevant category cut-off. Open-category seats go by the Common Rank List (CRL).

Real CSAB Special Round closing ranks for NITs, IIITs and GFTIs — based on official 2025 Special Round 3 data (the most reliable reference until CSAB 2026 concludes). Ranks are JEE Main CRL, OPEN, Gender-Neutral unless noted.
How to read this: All ranks are JEE Main CRL, OPEN category, Gender-Neutral, from CSAB 2025 Special Round 3 (official). For reserved categories the number is that category's own rank. A dash means no seat was left in that combination by Round 3. CSAB 2026 official cut-offs release after the 2026 special rounds — expect similar ranges. Verify on csab.nic.in.
| NIT (CSE) | OPEN | EWS | OBC-NCL |
|---|---|---|---|
| NIT Warangal HS | 4,059 | 5,217 | — |
| NIT Rourkela OS | 4,245 | — | 6,791 |
| NIT Surathkal OS | — | — | 3,690 |

| SVNIT Surat HS | 11,316 | — | 21,763 |
| NIT Patna OS | 19,078 | — | 24,167 |
These are real CSAB 2025 Special Round 3 closing ranks (JEE Main CRL, Gender-Neutral). A dash means no CSE seat was left in that category/quota by Round 3 — top-NIT CSE seats mostly fill in JoSAA, so CSAB CSE availability is limited. HS = Home State, OS = Other State.
| Branch | Best NIT (lowest closing) | Closing Rank |
|---|---|---|
| CSE | NIT Warangal (HS) | 4,059 |
| ECE | MNNIT Allahabad | 10,568 |

| Mechanical | NIT Warangal | 17,056 |
| Chemical | NIT Rourkela | 21,669 |
| Civil | NIT Trichy | 22,809 |
Core branches (Mechanical, Civil, Chemical) stay open to much higher ranks than CSE/ECE in CSAB — a real chance to still land a top NIT if you missed CSE in JoSAA.
| IIIT | Branch | Closing Rank |

| IIIT Allahabad | IT | 6,926 |

Real CSAB 2025 R3 (OPEN, GN, All-India). IIITs have no home-state quota — one all-India pool. IIIT Hyderabad is NOT in CSAB (own admission). Top IIITs (Allahabad, Lucknow) close early; newer IIITs open past 30,000–65,000 for CSE.
| GFTI | Branch | Closing Rank |

| NIT Jalandhar (Dr BRA) OS | CSE | 13,737 |

| BIT Patna (Off-Campus) | CSE | 98,719 |
| Assam University Silchar | CSE | 1,23,330 |
| SMVD University Katra | CSE | 1,35,569 |
Real CSAB 2025 R3 (OPEN, GN). GFTIs are the widest-access category — CSE opens from ~14,000 (top GFTIs) all the way past 1,00,000 (state universities). A strong safety net if you missed NIT/IIIT. Core branches go even higher.
| Institute Type (CSE) | 2023 | 2024 | 2025 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Top NITs | ~7,000 | ~6,800 | ~7,000 |
| Mid NITs | ~22,000 | ~21,500 | ~22,000 |
| Top IIITs | ~10,000 | ~9,500 | ~10,000 |
| GFTIs | ~43,000 | ~42,000 | ~44,000 |
CSAB CSE cut-offs have stayed fairly stable across 2023–2025. Round 2 is usually more relaxed than Round 1. For 2026, plan against the 2025 closing rank and keep a safety buffer.
Special Round 1 — first CSAB allotment on vacant NIT+ seats. Tightest CSAB closing ranks.
Special Round 2 — more seats free up; closing ranks usually relax further. Final chance.
NEUT & Supernumerary — extra rounds for North-East / UT and special-quota candidates.
Compiled from official CSAB data (csab.nic.in). CSAB 2026 special rounds run after JoSAA concludes (late July 2026). Figures indicative & category-specific — verify institute, branch, category, gender pool & quota on the official portal. Last updated: July 31, 2026 · Competishun.
