What is CSAB? The Central Seat Allocation Board fills seats that stay vacant after JoSAA in NITs, IIITs and GFTIs — IITs are not included. Seats go by JEE Main rank, category and choice order. Closing ranks are usually a bit more relaxed than JoSAA since these are leftover seats.

Good to know

CSAB vs JoSAA

CSAB is generally a bit easier — it fills leftover seats after JoSAA, so competition is lower for mid-tier NITs, newer IIITs and GFTIs.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions

Can I lose my JoSAA seat in CSAB?

Your JoSAA seat stays safe unless CSAB allots you a new seat and you accept it. If you accept a CSAB upgrade, the original JoSAA seat is automatically cancelled — so decide carefully.

Does CSAB include IITs?

No. CSAB only covers the NIT+ system — NITs, IIITs and GFTIs. IIT seats are handled entirely by JoSAA.

Which round's closing rank should I trust?

The final special round. Round 2 (and later) closing ranks are usually more relaxed than Round 1, as more vacant seats open up across rounds.

Is my rank checked as CRL or category rank?

For reserved categories, CSAB uses your category rank against the relevant category cut-off. Open-category seats go by the Common Rank List (CRL).

Do I need to register separately for CSAB?

Yes. Your JoSAA registration does not carry over — register fresh on csab.nic.in and fill choices again for the special rounds.
