The National Institutional Ranking Framework is the Ministry of Education’s official ranking of India’s engineering colleges. Compare the top 100 IITs, NITs, IIITs and private institutes by score, city and state — and use it to plan your JEE counselling with confidence.
Latest official data: NIRF 2025. NIRF 2026 has not been released yet — it is expected around August–September 2026. This page will be updated the moment the new list is out.

Every institute is scored out of 100 across five weighted parameters.
Faculty strength, student ratio, PhD qualifications, financial resources and campus facilities.
Publications, quality of research, patents, and funded projects and consultancy work.
Placement, higher studies, median salary, and university-exam and PhD completion.
Diversity of students by region and gender, economically weaker sections and facilities for the differently-abled.
Reputation among academic peers, employers and the wider public.
Weigh NIRF alongside your JEE rank, branch, location and fees. A stronger branch often beats a slightly higher-ranked college.
Core CSE/ECE at a rank-15 college can out-value a low-demand branch at a rank-5 one. Match the branch to your goal.
Home-state quotas, travel and living costs matter over four years. Shortlist a realistic mix, not just top names.
Look at how a college has moved over recent years. Stability across cycles is a stronger signal than a one-year jump.
NIRF (National Institutional Ranking Framework) is the official ranking system of India’s Ministry of Education, launched in 2015. It ranks colleges and universities on teaching, research, graduation outcomes, outreach and perception.
IIT Madras is ranked No.1 in the NIRF Engineering category — a position it has held every year since NIRF began in 2016, driven by strong research output and graduation outcomes.
Not yet. Based on past cycles, NIRF 2026 is expected around August–September 2026. This page shows the latest official NIRF 2025 data and will be updated as soon as the new rankings are announced on nirfindia.org.
Teaching, Learning & Resources (30), Research & Professional Practice (30), Graduation Outcomes (20), Outreach & Inclusivity (10) and Perception (10) — totalling 100 marks.
Use NIRF as one input alongside your JEE rank, branch preference, location and seat availability. A higher-ranked college signals strong research, placements and faculty, but the right branch often matters more than a few rank positions.
