Chapter-wise Revision Checklist From the Physics Sample Paper
Based on what this paper asks, here is what to revise in each high-weight chapter before the board exam.
Current Electricity
Kirchhoff's laws, Wheatstone bridge, power in series and parallel combinations, and meters with shunts. It carries the most marks in this paper, so practise circuit numericals until they feel routine.
Ray Optics
Lens and mirror formula, refraction through a lens in a different medium, critical angle and total internal reflection, and the compound microscope. Practise ray diagrams with arrows and labels.
Electrostatic Potential and Capacitance
Work done in moving charges, potential energy of a system and capacitor combinations. Long answers often combine theory with a short numerical.
Semiconductor Electronics
Energy band diagrams of metals, insulators and semiconductors, and application-based case questions on new materials. Learn the band diagrams by drawing them.
Wave Optics
Huygens' principle, the derivation of Snell's law and Young's double slit fringe width. Derivations here are fixed and score full marks when written step by step.
Modern Physics (Atoms, Nuclei, Dual Nature)
Rutherford scattering, Bohr model, binding energy per nucleon and the photoelectric effect. Short, formula-based and very scoring.
Section-wise Strategy for the Physics Paper
How to approach each section of this paper in the exam hall, based on the questions CBSE has set.
Section A (16 marks)
Twelve MCQs and four Assertion-Reason questions. Spend about 20 minutes here. Most questions test one formula or one idea, like flux through a Gaussian surface or power in parallel heaters, so speed comes from knowing NCERT results by heart.
Sections B and C (31 marks)
Short answers on EM waves, drift of electrons, binding energy, Huygens' principle and band diagrams. Write the formula first, substitute with units, then box the answer. Each step is a separate mark.
Section D (8 marks)
Two case studies, this year on printed semiconductor films and the photoelectric effect. Read the passage once fully; most sub-questions are answered by one line in it plus one NCERT concept.
A simple 3-hour time plan
Give Section A about 20 minutes, Sections B and C about 70 minutes together, Section D around 20 minutes and Section E about 50 minutes. Keep the last 15 to 20 minutes to recheck units, signs and diagrams. Students who plan time this way rarely leave a long answer half done.
Section E (15 marks)
Three long answers with internal choice: capacitors, the compound microscope and the transformer. Pick the option you can finish completely, draw the diagram, and write every derivation step.
How to Use the Physics Sample Paper for Boards and JEE
- Attempt it in 3 hours first. Take the question paper from our sample paper page and solve it with a timer before opening the solutions.
- Check Section A with the answer key. Every wrong objective answer points to a concept to revise.
- Check written answers with the PDF. Compare your steps with the marking scheme and give yourself marks honestly.
- Revise by chapter weight. Use the chapter-wise table above to decide what to revise first.
- Push the same chapters for JEE. The high-weight board chapters are also high-weight in JEE Main; solve harder problems from them after boards practice.
Where Students Lose Marks in Class 12 Physics
The marking scheme of the cbse physics sample paper class 12 shows clear patterns in where marks slip away.
- Write derivations step by step. Section E long answers give separate marks for each step and the labelled diagram.
- Always write units. Numerical answers without units lose marks even when the value is right.
- Draw ray diagrams with arrows. Optics questions mark the diagram separately.
- Use the given constants. The paper lists the constants you need; use them, not memorised approximations.
- Read Assertion-Reason twice. Decide each statement first, then whether the reason explains the assertion.
