MHT CET 2027 Marks vs Percentile: How Many Marks for 90, 95 & 99 Percentile?
Based on recent MHT CET trends, PCM students have typically needed about 135 to 160 marks for 99 percentile, 100 to 115 marks for 95 percentile and about 80 to 95 marks for 90 percentile, out of 200. The exact number shifts with each session's difficulty because MHT CET percentiles are normalised shift by shift. Use these as targets, not guarantees.
MHT CET does not give you a rank based on raw marks. It converts your marks into a percentile, and that percentile decides your merit position for CAP admissions. That is why "how many marks for 99 percentile?" is the question every aspirant asks.
This guide gives you the expected MHT CET 2027 marks vs percentile ranges for PCM and PCB, explains why the same marks can mean different percentiles, and shows you how to set a realistic target score for the colleges you want.

MHT CET Marks vs Percentile: PCM
PCM is out of 200: Physics and Chemistry carry 1 mark per question, Mathematics carries 2 marks per question, with no negative marking.
| Marks (out of 200) | Expected percentile |
|---|---|
| 160 and above | 99.5 and above |
| 140 to 160 | About 99 to 99.5 |
| 130 to 140 | About 98 to 99 |
| 115 to 130 | About 96 to 98 |
| 100 to 115 | About 93 to 96 |
| 80 to 100 | About 85 to 93 |
| 60 to 80 | About 70 to 85 |
| Below 60 | Below about 70 |
| In a tough shift, 99 percentile has been reached with marks in the 130s; in an easy shift it can need 155 to 160. | |
MHT CET Marks vs Percentile: PCB
PCB is also out of 200: every question in Physics, Chemistry and Biology carries 1 mark, with no negative marking.
| Marks (out of 200) | Expected percentile |
|---|---|
| 155 and above | 99.5 and above |
| 145 to 155 | About 99 to 99.5 |
| 135 to 145 | About 98 to 99 |
| 115 to 135 | About 95 to 98 |
| 100 to 115 | About 90 to 95 |
| 80 to 100 | About 80 to 90 |
| PCB has a large candidate pool, so small differences in marks near the top can change the percentile noticeably. | |
Percentile vs Expected Rank
Your State Merit Rank depends on how many candidates appear. With lakhs of candidates in PCM, even small percentile differences mean thousands of ranks.
| Percentile | Approximate position |
|---|---|
| 99.9 and above | Roughly the top few hundred |
| 99.5 | Roughly the top 2,000 |
| 99 | Roughly the top 3,500 to 4,500 |
| 95 | Roughly the top 20,000 |
| 90 | Roughly the top 40,000 to 45,000 |
| Approximate, based on recent PCM candidate counts of around four lakh or more. Your official rank comes in the merit list. | |
How MHT CET Percentile Is Calculated
Because MHT CET runs over many days and shifts, papers are not equally difficult. To make scores fair across shifts, the CET Cell uses a percentile score calculated within each session.
- It is relative: a 99 percentile means you did as well as or better than 99% of candidates in your session
- It is not percentage: 99 percentile does not mean 99% marks; it can happen at well below 160 out of 200
- Shift matters: the same marks can give a higher percentile in a tougher shift
- Ties are rare: percentiles are calculated to several decimal places to separate candidates
Two Attempts in 2027: Which Percentile Counts?
MHT CET 2027 will be held in two attempts, both after the Class 12 board exams. As per the announcement, the better score of the two attempts will be considered for admission. That means a weaker first attempt is not the end; you get a second chance about four weeks later.

How to Use This to Set Your Target
| If you are aiming for | Target percentile | Safe PCM marks target |
|---|---|---|
| Top branches at the best colleges | 99.5+ | 160+ |
| Good branches at top colleges | 99+ | 150+ |
| Strong government-aided or autonomous colleges | 96 to 99 | 120 to 140 |
| Good private colleges | 90 to 96 | 95 to 120 |
| Aim a little above the range so that a tougher or easier shift does not catch you off guard. | ||
