MHT CET 2027 Chapter-Wise Weightage: Most Important Chapters in Physics, Chemistry, Maths & Biology
In MHT CET, Class 12 carries about 80% of questions, and a short list of chapters carries a big share of the marks. In Chemistry, Chemical Thermodynamics alone brings about 7 to 8 of the 50 questions. In Physics, Kinetic Theory of Gases and Radiation is the biggest chapter at about 6 questions. In Maths, Integration, Trigonometric Functions, Three Dimensional Geometry and Probability Distribution together bring about 16 to 17 questions, worth 32 to 34 marks, because every Maths question carries 2 marks. In Biology, the Genetics and Human Physiology units dominate.
MHT CET 2027 will be held in two attempts after the Class 12 boards, and most students will walk in with limited weeks, not months, to prepare. With 150 questions in PCM and 200 in PCB, the students who score high are rarely the ones who studied everything equally. They are the ones who knew where the marks sit.
This guide goes chapter by chapter, not subject by subject in vague terms. Every chapter table below carries the expected number of questions from previous-year paper analysis, the weightage that means in marks, and the exact topics inside the chapter that examiners repeat. After the tables, you get a tier-wise plan that turns this weightage into a study order.
One honest note before the numbers: the CET Cell publishes the syllabus and the exam pattern, but it has never published an official chapter-wise weightage. Every number here is an estimate built from MHT CET papers of the last few years, and counts move a little between shifts. Use them to decide your order of study, never to skip a chapter completely. How the numbers were built is explained at the end.

Four numbers explain most of MHT CET strategy. The paper is 200 marks in both groups. Class 12 supplies about four-fifths of the questions. One Chemistry chapter, Chemical Thermodynamics and Energetics, is worth more than entire units elsewhere. And because Maths questions carry double marks, the top of the marks table looks very different from the top of the questions table:
Orange bars are Maths chapters: fewer questions than the top Chemistry chapter, but double marks per question. Expected marks are per-paper averages from previous-year papers.
MHT CET 2027 Exam Pattern: Questions, Marks and Time
| Group | Section | Questions | Marks per Question | Section Marks |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| PCM | Physics and Chemistry | 100 | 1 | 100 |
| PCM | Mathematics | 50 | 2 | 100 |
| PCB | Physics and Chemistry | 100 | 1 | 100 |
| PCB | Biology (Botany and Zoology) | 100 | 1 | 100 |
| 200 marks in each group. Physics and Chemistry share one 90-minute block; Mathematics or Biology gets its own 90-minute block. There is no negative marking. | ||||

Two consequences follow. First, speed is a subject in itself: in the Physics and Chemistry block you get about a minute per question, so the exam rewards students who recognise a formula and apply it without a long setup. Second, an unattempted question costs the same as a wrong one, which is zero, so every question deserves an attempt. The full pattern, including eligibility and the two attempts, is covered in the MHT CET 2027 Exam Pattern guide.
Class 11 vs Class 12 Weightage in MHT CET
| Subject | Class 11 | Class 12 |
|---|---|---|
| Physics | About 10 questions | About 40 questions |
| Chemistry | About 10 questions | About 40 questions |
| Mathematics | About 10 questions | About 40 questions |
| Biology | About 20 questions | About 80 questions |
| The 20:80 split is part of the official syllabus design. Class 11 questions come only from selected Class 11 chapters. | ||
The Class 11 fifth of the paper is not spread thinly across the whole Class 11 syllabus. It concentrates in a few chapters that the CET Cell includes from Class 11, and some of them carry weight that rivals Class 12 chapters. Trigonometric Functions, a Class 11 chapter, brings about 4 Maths questions, the same as Three Dimensional Geometry. p-Block Elements in Chemistry and the wave chapters in Physics also come with serious counts.
MHT CET Physics Chapter-Wise Weightage
Physics has 50 questions of 1 mark each, and its weightage is the most top-heavy of the three PCM subjects: the top three chapters alone account for about 14 questions, more than a quarter of the paper.
| Chapter | Expected Questions | Weightage | Topics to Focus On |
|---|---|---|---|
| Kinetic Theory of Gases and Radiation | 6 | 12% | RMS speed, degrees of freedom and radiation laws. Mostly direct formula numericals, the fastest marks in Physics. |
| Oscillations | 4 | 8% | SHM equations, time period formulas and energy in SHM. Expect graph-based questions. |
| Atoms, Molecules and Nuclei | 4 | 8% | Bohr model, binding energy and radioactive decay. Formula-based and very repeatable. |
| Rotational Dynamics | 3 to 4 | 7% | Moment of inertia, torque and angular momentum. Concept clarity matters more than speed here. |
| Electrostatics | 3 to 4 | 7% | Coulomb law, electric field and potential, capacitors. Numericals on charge distributions. |
| Magnetic Fields due to Electric Current | 3 | 6% | Biot-Savart law, Ampere law and force on a current-carrying conductor. |
| Electromagnetic Induction and AC Circuits | 3 | 6% | Faraday and Lenz laws, induced EMF and AC circuit relations. |
| Semiconductor Electronics | 3 | 6% | Logic gates, p-n junction and diode behaviour. Mostly theory, quick to revise. |
| Superposition of Waves | 2 to 3 | 5% | Superposition, beats, wave speed and phase difference. |
| Magnetic Materials | 2 to 3 | 5% | Magnetic dipole moment, hysteresis and material properties. Theory-heavy. |

| Mechanical Properties of Fluids | 2 | 4% | Surface tension, capillary rise, surface energy and viscosity basics. |
| Wave Optics | 2 | 4% | Young double slit experiment, fringe width and diffraction basics. |
| Current Electricity | 2 | 4% | Ohm law, resistivity and Kirchhoff laws. Circuit numericals. |
| Gravitation | 1 to 2 | 3% | Orbital velocity, escape velocity and gravitational potential. |
| Stationary Waves | 1 to 2 | 3% | Nodes, antinodes and resonance conditions. |
| Electrons and Photons | 1 to 2 | 3% | Photoelectric effect equations and numericals. |
| Elasticity | 1 | 2% | Stress-strain relations and modulus of elasticity. |
| Wave Theory of Light | 1 | 2% | Huygens principle. Mostly concept questions. |
| Communication Systems | 0 to 1 | 1% | Basic terms and definitions only. |
| Expected questions are per-paper averages from previous-year analysis. Any single shift can give a chapter one question more or less. | |||

The chapter to master first: Kinetic Theory of Gases and Radiation
At about 6 questions and 12 percent of Physics, Kinetic Theory of Gases and Radiation is the biggest Physics chapter, and one of the kindest. Most of its questions are direct formula applications: RMS speed, degrees of freedom, mean free path and the radiation laws. A student who has the formula sheet internalised can take most of these questions in under a minute each, which buys time for Rotational Dynamics and Electrostatics, where questions take longer.
What the Physics table tells you
- Formula chapters dominate: Kinetic Theory, Oscillations, Atoms and Nuclei, Semiconductors and Surface Tension together bring about 17 questions, and most are formula or theory direct. These are the highest marks-per-hour chapters in Physics.
- Concept chapters are fewer but slower: Rotational Dynamics, Electrostatics and Magnetic Fields give about 10 questions between them, but each question takes longer. Practise them with timed sets, not just reading.
- Nothing is truly zero: Even the last rows of the table give a question in most shifts. Communication Systems and Wave Theory of Light are one-evening chapters; skipping them is leaving free marks.
MHT CET Chemistry Chapter-Wise Weightage
Chemistry has 50 questions, and it is the subject where weightage concentration is most extreme. One chapter, Chemical Thermodynamics and Energetics, brings about 7 to 8 questions: more than many full units in other subjects.
| Chapter | Expected Questions | Weightage | Topics to Focus On |
|---|---|---|---|
| Chemical Thermodynamics and Energetics | 7 to 8 | 15% | Enthalpy change, Hess law and bond energy numericals. The single biggest chapter in the whole exam. |
| p-Block Elements (Groups 15 to 18) | 4 to 5 | 9% | Trends, oxidation states, important compounds and the exceptions examiners love. |
| Coordination Compounds | 4 to 5 | 9% | Ligands, IUPAC naming, hybridisation and crystal field basics. |
| d and f Block Elements | 4 | 8% | Electronic configuration, oxidation states, colour and magnetic properties. |
| Alcohols, Phenols and Ethers | 4 | 8% | Preparation methods and reaction mechanisms. |
| Organic Compounds Containing Nitrogen | 4 | 8% | Amines and diazonium salts: preparation, properties and reactions. |
| Solid State | 3 | 6% | Packing efficiency, density formula and defects in solids. |
| Solutions and Colligative Properties | 3 | 6% | Molarity, molality and colligative property numericals. |
| Electrochemistry | 2 to 3 | 6% | Cell EMF, the Nernst equation and conductance. |
| Chemical Kinetics | 2 to 3 | 5% | Rate law, order of reaction, half-life formulas and rate graphs. |
| Halogen Derivatives of Alkanes and Arenes | 2 to 3 | 5% | Nucleophilic substitution and preparation methods. |
| Aldehydes, Ketones and Carboxylic Acids | 2 to 3 | 5% | Named reactions, mechanisms and functional group identification. |
| Chemistry in Everyday Life | 2 to 3 | 5% | Drugs, detergents and antiseptics. Direct theory questions. |
| Biomolecules | 2 | 4% | Structures and functions of carbohydrates, proteins and nucleic acids. |
| Polymers | 2 | 4% | Types of polymers, polymerisation reactions and standard examples. |
| Expected questions are per-paper averages from previous-year analysis. Organic chapters together carry the largest combined share. | |||

Chemistry splits into three almost equal blocks
| Branch | Main Chapters | Expected Questions | Share of Chemistry |
|---|---|---|---|
| Physical Chemistry | Thermodynamics, Solid State, Solutions, Electrochemistry, Kinetics | About 18 | About 36% |
| Inorganic Chemistry | p-Block, d and f Block, Coordination Compounds | About 13 | About 26% |
| Organic Chemistry | Alcohols to Polymers, seven chapters | About 19 | About 38% |
| Physical and Organic Chemistry together are about three-fourths of the paper. A preparation that is all Organic, or all Physical, cannot score high. | |||

The practical reading of this split: Physical Chemistry is numerical and formula-led, so it rewards practice volume. Inorganic is a small set of chapters with very repeatable questions on trends, configurations and named compounds, so it rewards revision frequency. Organic is the widest block, seven chapters of reactions, and it rewards understanding mechanisms once instead of memorising every reaction separately.

Calculus is one block, and it is worth 36 marks
Treat the calculus chapters as a single unit: Integration (4 to 5 questions), Differentiation (3 to 4), Continuity (2 to 3), Applications of Derivatives (2 to 3), Applications of Definite Integrals (2) and Differential Equations (3). Together they bring about 18 questions, roughly 36 of the 100 Maths marks. Inside the block, Integration is the anchor: it is the single biggest Maths chapter, and its definite integral properties questions repeat in some form almost every year.
The second block: Vectors and 3D Geometry
Vectors (3 to 4 questions), Three Dimensional Geometry (4), Line (1 to 2) and Plane (2) together bring about 11 questions, roughly 22 marks. These chapters share machinery, so learning them together is efficient: direction ratios and cosines feed straight into line and plane equations. After calculus and this block, Trigonometric Functions and Probability Distribution add about 8 more questions, and you have covered roughly two-thirds of the Maths paper with nine chapters.
MHT CET Biology Chapter-Wise Weightage
Biology is the PCB equivalent of Maths: 100 questions, 100 marks, half the paper. It splits into Botany (50 questions) and Zoology (50 questions), and inside each half, one unit towers over the rest.
Botany: share of Botany questions by unit
Zoology: share of Zoology questions by unit
| Priority | Chapters (mostly Class 12) | Why It Matters |
|---|---|---|
| High | Inheritance and Variation, Molecular Basis of Inheritance, Biotechnology, Respiration and Circulation, Control and Co-ordination, Human Reproduction and Reproductive Health | Genetics and Biotechnology alone is about a quarter of Botany, and Human Physiology is nearly half of Zoology. |
| Medium | Reproduction in Plants, Human Health and Diseases, Origin and Evolution of Life, Plant Growth and Mineral Nutrition, Organisms and Populations, Ecosystem | Steady multi-question units that appear in almost every shift. |
| Steady | Plant Water Relations, Enhancement of Food Production, Animal Husbandry, Biodiversity | Smaller units, but Biology has 100 questions, so even steady units add real marks. |
| Biology questions are 1 mark each with no negative marking, so coverage breadth matters more here than in any other subject. | ||
The preparation reading: finish the Genetics block (Inheritance and Variation, Molecular Basis of Inheritance, and the two Biotechnology chapters) and Human Physiology before anything else, because together they are roughly a third of the Biology paper. Then work outward through Reproduction and Ecology. Biology questions in MHT CET are heavily line-based on the state board textbook, so read the textbook itself, not only summaries, and mark the lines that previous papers have converted into questions. Those papers are collected in the MHT CET Previous Year Papers with Solutions guide.
How to Use Weightage: The Tier-Wise Study Plan
Weightage is only useful if it changes what you do on Monday morning. Convert the tables into three tiers and study in tier order:
The three tiers
Tier 1: High weightage
Chapters with 3 or more expected questions in the tables above. In PCM, they cover about 94 of the 150 questions. Finish these first, with a chapter test after each one.
About 124 of 200 marksTier 2: Medium weightage
Chapters with 2 to 3 expected questions. Cover them immediately after Tier 1. Tiers 1 and 2 together are almost the entire paper.
Most of the remaining marksTier 3: Steady chapters
Chapters with 1 to 2 expected questions. Do them last, but do them. With no negative marking, these are the cheapest marks in the exam.
Free marks, if prepared- Study in tier order, test in tier order: take a chapter-wise test the day you finish a chapter, not at the end of the month
- Weight your hours by marks, not chapters: an hour on a 2-mark Maths chapter is worth two hours on a 1-mark chapter at the same question count
- Keep a weightage tracker: list the chapters, mark each as studied, tested and revised. Your mock analysis should report scores chapter-wise, the same way these tables are built
- Recheck against papers: after every mock, compare your weak chapters with their weightage. A weak Tier 1 chapter is an emergency; a weak Tier 3 chapter is a weekend task

Weightage Mistakes That Cost Marks
- Skipping low-weightage chapters completely: about 56 of the 150 PCM questions come from outside Tier 1. At high scores, these are precisely the marks that separate ranks.
- Studying only Class 12: the Class 11 fifth of the paper includes full chapters like Trigonometric Functions and p-Block Elements, not leftovers.
- Treating all three subjects equally: Maths is half the PCM marks. Equal time for all three subjects is an unequal marks strategy.
- Reading weightage as a guarantee: counts change between years and shifts. A steady chapter can give 3 questions in your shift; a high chapter can give 2. Weightage sets probability, not promise.
- Collecting weightage, never testing: a weightage table tells you the order of study. Only chapter-wise tests and mocks tell you whether a high-weightage chapter is actually scoring for you. Check what your score converts to in the MHT CET 2027 Marks vs Percentile guide.
How This Weightage Was Calculated
The CET Cell, Maharashtra, publishes the MHT CET syllabus and exam pattern. It does not publish, and has never published, a chapter-wise weightage. The tables in this guide are estimates compiled from previous-year MHT CET paper analyses across recent years and shifts: for each chapter, the number of questions it contributed per paper was averaged, and chapters were cross-checked across more than one published analysis. Where analyses disagreed, this guide shows the wider range rather than a single confident number.
